I'd like to add to your post that even though the reason against said patches is that they could be used for piracy, the fact that there're many ISO mounting software available (both propietary and open source) completely defeats the purpose of the dated cd protection. It's a huge grey area, and I think we should just get rid of this silly nonsense. And so should the spreading of any knowledge about the Tomb Raider executable and level formats. If this is considered too much, because it can be used for piracy, then the use of Hex Editors should also be forbidden on this site, because a Hex Editor can be used for piracy. Would that be piracy? No copyrighted material is being spread and people who haven't bought the game would not be able to use it. But what if one doesn't post an edited executable, but merely an *.ips or other such file. If one posts an edited executable, I can understand the piracy-argument, because copyrighted material is being spread. Next I wonder how far the piracy-argument can reasonably be taken. It simply forbids fans of the series from playing them conveniently. I think the policy of not allowing the use of NoCD patches has become a little silly and counterproductive. Now, however, the games are sold through sevices like Good Old Games and Steam, with all of those versions including NoCD patches. My next problem comes from the fact that when this forum started, the only way to get a copy of Tomb Raider was by buying it on a cd. It also allowed to Tomb Raider Translation Tool, which includes a NoCD option, the new TR2 audio solution, which includes a NoCD patch and several other projects of this kind. My problem starts with the fact that in other threads this forum has allowed noCD patches as edited executables and as patch files like *.ips. I understand the reasoning behind this, however I must question the current relevance of such an issue. The reason for the closing of the thread was that "we can't allow people to post links to no-CD patches here as that could be used for piracy". In this thread a member by the name of Patrick Shannon asked for a NoCD patch of Tomb Raider II - The Golden Mask.

So a few days ago this thread was closed by a moderator. I'd like to say a few words about NoCD patches and the policies concerning NoCD patches on this forum.
